Trump Faces Criticism Over Golf-Course Greeting With U.S. Service Members

President Donald Trump drew a wave of online criticism after video showed him greeting U.S. service members during a weekend visit to his golf property in Bedminster, New Jersey.

The short clip showed Trump walking toward a group of uniformed military personnel, exchanging handshakes and briefly speaking with them. But instead of the conversation itself, one small detail quickly became the focus of the online debate.

Viewers Focused On His Golf Glove

Trump was still dressed for golf during the encounter, wearing a red cap, a white polo shirt and a golf glove. As he moved down the line greeting the service members, he kept the glove on.

That detail immediately caught the attention of critics on social media.

Some argued that removing the glove before shaking hands would have been a basic sign of courtesy. Others also questioned whether he should have removed his hat while meeting uniformed members of the armed forces.

For those critics, the issue was less about politics and more about etiquette.

Others Saw The Moment Differently

Not everyone viewed the interaction as disrespectful. The footage also showed Trump smiling, speaking directly with the service members and taking time to greet them individually.

Supporters pointed to the informal setting and argued that the president had simply walked over while still dressed from his round of golf.

The White House did not indicate that keeping the glove on was intended as any kind of statement or gesture.

The Meeting Came During A New Jersey Weekend

The interaction took place during Trump’s stay at his Bedminster property. His public schedule showed him spending the weekend in New Jersey, and the White House later published its own video of the military greeting.

The appearance also came after Trump had attended a dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base honoring four U.S. service members killed in the Middle East.

A Small Detail Became The Main Story

The clip is another example of how quickly routine presidential moments can become major talking points online.

Instead of focusing mainly on what Trump said to the service members, much of the reaction centered on what he was wearing and whether traditional handshake etiquette should have applied in that setting.

Critics described the glove as inappropriate, while supporters saw the controversy as an overreaction to an informal encounter.

What do you think — should the president have removed his golf glove and hat before greeting the service members, or is the criticism overblown?
